Subjective Income and Employment Expecations and Preferences for Redistribution

Using probabilistic expectations data from the German Socio-Economic Panel, we establish a link between self-reported expectations of occupational mobility and individual preferences for redistribution. We do this with the intention to provide new evidence on the validity of the “prospect of upward mobility” (POUM) hypothesis, which features prominently in the current literature on redistributive politics.
