Successful Entrepreneurial Minorities of Pakistan

Pakistan emerged as a state in 1947. Almost every aspect of life was new and demanded a definition for its progress and growth. It was important to evolve a system of governance, a system of politics, a system of education a system of business, a system of social integration. And as a country it was essential to have an economic agenda and economic system. The evolutionary process would spin out a system based upon the ethos of the society and this would require entrepreneurs, the men who would build the country. This work is to throw light upon those communities that established the economy of Pakistan. It is to create an awareness of these forefathers and their contribution at a time when the world was undergoing change and when no rules existed and resources were unexplored. This is about the human capital, the social capital of certain societies. It is about looking for the entrepreneurial capabilities. But Pakistan did not inherit an industrial economy or services or large enterprises. However it inherited entrepreneurial minorities. According to Sergey Levin (1973) the people from Gujarat, Muslims Khojas, Memons and Bohras (Ismailis, Parsees, and Punjab Delhi Saudagran) moved to Pakistan after 1947 at the time of independence. He also indicates that the Punjabi, (Punjab is a province of Pakistan and is also a province in India), business communities such as Khatris, Pirachas, Chiniotis, and Shamsis also migrated to Pakistan. On the North Western side the traders found Peshawar to be the gateway to Pakistan for the Central Asian and the Afghan traders and traders from all over Asia traversed here for business (Nocker & Junaid 2011). This lays the ground work for research to look into detail about that period and about those people
