Survey Article: From Reforming to Transforming the Economic System in Hungary
Despite being a small country with a curious language, Hungary attracted considerable interest by international economists. The English language literature listed here for the period between 1988 and 1992 is partial evidence of this interest. This survey, an orientation to these materials, is composed of four sections: first, as background information, a balance sheet of socialist reforms; second, an analysis of the theory and practice of the first two transition years; third, a description of the sobering of 1992 and prospects for the future; and, finally, a comparative outlook.
