Teachers’ Perceived Strategies for Improving Human Capital Development in Biology Education for the Enhancement of STEM Education

The relevance of human capital development in biology education for the enhancement of STEM education includes; it promotes the knowledge of innovative approaches, fostering economic growth and national development, improvement of the general standard of living in the society amongst others. This study investigated the strategies for improving human capital development in biology education for the enhancement STEM education as well as the challenges facing human capital development as perceived by biology teachers. The study was carried out in Aguata Education Zone, Anambra State. Fifty (50) biology teachers in senior secondary schools in Aguata Education zone formed the sample for the study. Biology Teachers Capital Development Scale (BTCDS) developed by the researchers with a reliability of 0.83 obtained through Cronbach’s alpha method was used for data collection. The data obtained was analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test statistics. The findings revealed that there is no significant difference between male and female Biology teachers’ perceived strategies for improving human capital development in biology education for the enhancement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education. Findings also shows that there is no significant difference in Biology teachers’ perceived challenges facing human capital development in biology education based on gender. Based on the findings, recommendations were given amongst which include that biology teachers should be encouraged to attend workshops, conferences and seminars which enhances human capital development
