Technology for Empowerment : Context of Urban Afghan Women

Inclusion of women in digital space is a growing concern considering various challenges particularly in South Asian region where there is an information gap about Afghanistan. This work critically examines the women, some of whom are displaced as refugees and returnees, in the context of urban Afghanistan. Through a qualitative study with 23 women, among which we have 3 experiencing refugee and returnee status, we take a closer look at their opportunities and challenges in the digital space. Our findings show how the participants are navigating the digital space facing various unique challenging. Our study also highlights the participant’s aspiration of creating a supportive environment for others showing resilience through their own challenges
