Testing ChatGPT and Generative AI Systems as Corporate Ethics Advisors

This paper tests, using various morally and ethically challenging business scenarios, the ability of ChatGPT and Generative AI Systems to provide useful and coherent ethics advice in the corporate and business environment, particularly in the C-suite and business board room.What these test experiments show is that in the very near future ChatGPT and successor Generative AI Systems, particularly those specifically trained to focus on corporate ethical questions, should be able to provide much needed and useful corporate ethics advice on tap to every company employee and officer. While this ethics advice will not necessarily be perfect or complete, it should nevertheless provide steps in the right direction and help to identify important ethical dilemmas that need to be addressed and help to develop broader ethical awareness and thinking across the company and corporate sector, and be a great improvement on the current situation where there may be corporate ethical blindness, or where the only provision may have typically been just online FAQs, or broad guidelines, or a human ethics hotline.This development could in turn lead to a step-up improvement in global corporate ethics standards and much greater ethical accountability by businesses and their boards to scrutinizing employees, shareholders, regulators and commentators
