The Ageing Population and the Future of Healthcare Plans
This paper studies the relationship between healthcare expenditure and age. The positive relationship between age and healthcare expenditure observed in cross-sectional data may be caused by the fact that at age 70 and older, there are more individuals in their last two years of life. A validation of this hypothesis is done using cohort data of an insurance scheme. The Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance (2001) 26, 126–131. doi:10.1111/1468-0440.00100
