The Ecclesiastical Input in Promoting Good Economic Management and Sustainable Development in Nigeria

A survey of the international scene of developing countries shows that governments of various Less Developed Countries (LDCs) have engaged in varieties of strategies and programs in order to develop their economy and achieve sustainable growth. These programs are referred to in economic parlance as ‘instruments of national policy'. They include the establishments of public organizations that take different legal and organizational structures, different managerial patterns and different sets of relationships with governments to understand and to review the different means by which they can achieve sustainable development in their countries with the limited resources at their disposal. Sustainable development and economic management are inseparable in the discourse about the growth of any nation. Figuratively, they are like the body and soul in the overall functions of the human person. Good economic management leads to sustainable development. Sustainable development is a pattern of resource use that aims to meet human needs while preserving the natural environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also in the indefinite future.1 Good economic management is the art of running the economy of any nation in the most stable way possible, so as to achieve a high level o0f economic growth. High economic growth creates higher levels of income and therefore higher living standards for the people of that economy. Thus, the four main economic targets of a good economic management are high level of economic growth (growth in GDP); low level of unemployment; a low level of inflation, and external balance (balance between exports and imports).Now the matter remains whether Nigerian state has arrived at a good economic management policy that could lead to sustainable development. This author would like to see what possible means are open to attain sustainable development in Nigeria. Especially exploring the indispensability of the church in achieving the desired of good economic management and sustainable development in Nigeria
