The Frame of Europe, the Administrative Power

After World War II, the division of Europe into two antagonistic blocks led western European countries to strengthen their collaboration on defense (Brussels Treaty, 1948; Western European Union - WEU-, 1954) and economic (European Organization of Economic Cooperation, 1948 or the European Payments Union, 1950). The objective of some of the most enthusiastic Europeans of the moment was to increase the degree of supra-nationalism and reach a level of integration that would prevent the re-edition of endemic tensions between the European powers. The internationalization of the economy and communications made a Europe with a confederate structure that could compete with the world leader inevitable; United States.The USA. They played a fundamental role in promoting economic integration in Europe, since it represented a very valuable market for their products and they had to stop the expansionary momentum of the Soviet Union. American aid was channeled through the Marshall Plan, but for their part, the Europeans had to agree on how to distribute their resources. To that end, in 1948 they created the European Organization for Economic Cooperation -O.E.C.E. (Which would undergo another change in 1961). European governments began to value the political, social and economic advantages of economic integration, giving way to what we now know as the European Union
