The future of capitalism in a post-neoliberal world

With the title "Capitalism: time for a reset" the Financial Times (18 September 2019) published a series of articles with the aim of stimulating public debate on "where our established corporate and economic model is headed". Similar series along the same theme of a "broken capitalism" have been published by other publications such as The Guardian, The Economist and Foreign Affairs. If, however, capitalism is to be re-set and repaired so must the theories underpinning these policies must be re-set and repaired or replaced. ‘Neoliberalism’ is the economic creed that sustained and maintained, mainly US type of capitalism, for the past forty years. In dealing with the rising discontent with capitalism, therefore, the construction of a post-neoliberal alternative model of capitalism is necessary. The aim of this contribution, therefore, is to examine this vision of a post-neoliberal world and consider the future of capitalism when stripped of its ‘neoliberal’ foundations.
