The Future of Private Retirement Plans

This article presents highlights of the December 1, 1999, policy forum on "The Future of Private Retirement Plans," sponsored by the Employee Benefit Research Institute Education and Research Fund (EBRI-ERF). Attended by more than 100 invited experts, the policy forum examined the history and objectives of retirement plans, current trends in both defined benefit and defined contribution plans, how technology is affecting retirement plans, and how the politics of change are likely to affect the future of retirement plans in the United States.
