The impact of news sentiment on copper and crude oil futures returns

In Anbetracht der steigenden Anzahl von begrenzt rational handelnden Marktakteuren an den Rohstoff-Futures-Märkten und der hohen Relevanz von Rohstoffpreisen für die gesamte Makroökonomie liegt das Ziel dieser Arbeit in der Erforschung des Einflusspotentials von Messgrößen der Medienstimmung auf die Renditen von Kupfer- und Rohöl-Futures. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass ein Schock in der Nachrichtenstimmung ein Preismuster an den Kupfer- und Rohöl-Futures-Märkten auslöst, welches durch eine statistisch signifikante und ökonomisch bedeutsame Intraday-Überreaktion und eine nachfolgende statistisch signifikante und ökonomisch bedeutsame Korrekturbewegung gekennzeichnet ist. Obwohl dieses Preismuster von den meisten Messgrößen der Medienstimmung ausgelöst wird, variiert die Stärke der Überreaktion sowie der Korrekturbewegung je nach Nachrichtenanbieter. Zudem hat sich gezeigt, dass sowohl der Intraday-Einfluss als auch die Überreaktion stärker sind an Handelstagen mit geringer Informationsunsicherheit. Diese Resultate sind zwar nicht kompatibel mit der kurzfristigen Effizienzmarkthypothese, führen aber zu keiner Verwerfung der längerfristigen Effizienzmarkthypothese, da sich die Überreaktion in den darauffolgenden Handelstagen umkehrt und somit möglicherweise ein neuer fundamentaler Wert erreicht wird
