The aim of this book is to provide an economic analysis of the performance of and policy towards the vital interisland shipping industry since Indonesia's independence. It examines the nature of the business firm in Indonesia and the formulation and implementation of government policy, and concludes that the performance of this industry would be enhanced by a policy of deregulation.
