The New Economic Policy and the United Malays National Organization : With special reference to the restructuring of Malaysian society

In 1990, Malaysia duly completed its 20 year New Economic Policy (NEP) which was launched in 1971. The author examines the NEP implementation process by focusing on the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) as its implementing body. Using official documents, he discusses in detail the UMNO leaders' economic visions, debates within the party over the NEP and the dynamics of intra-party power struggles that resulted in the adoption of particular economic policies.
