In understanding the current state of the Greek pension system, the paper starts with a presentation of the major reform initiatives undertaken since the early 1990s, then proceeds by examining the measures taken since the crisis and which have been part of the financial assistance provided by the EU, ECB and the IMF and concludes with a preliminary assessment of the latest reforms and a discussion of the challenges which lie ahead
