The Regulation and Differences Between Cryptocurrency, Stablecoin, Central Bank Digital Currency, e-Money, Virtual Currency and In-Game Currency

The proliferation of digital currencies in recent years has produced a complex and rapidly evolving regulatory landscape. Cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, central bank digital currency (CBDC), e-money, virtual currency, and in-game currency all present their own set of challenges and opportunities for regulators and market participants. Although some of these currencies have been around for a while, others are relatively new, and their legal status and regulatory framework continue to develop. This paper shall look at the regulations and differences between these various types of digital currencies, with a focus on how they are managed under various legal frameworks around the world. Moreover, the work shall specifically examine the regulatory challenges posed by these currencies and how policymakers, regulators, and market participants endeavour to address them. Ultimately, the aim is to shed light into the current state of the law surrounding digital currencies and provide suggestions for future improvements to the regulation of this fast evolving industry
