The stability of energy coefficients
We discuss the statistical and theoretical (in)stability of energy coefficients. There is a lack of consensus on aggregate energy coefficients. Over the long run, the relations between energy consumption and economic activities are quite robust, although short-run energy coefficients may vary greatly. Changes in average energy-output ratios are not necessarily more stable or meaningful than the long-run energy coefficients.
