The status of women in Ghana : (1985 - 1994) ; executive summary of the national report for the Fourth World Conference on Women

This report prepared as part of preparatory activities towards the 4th World Conference on Women scheduled to take place in Beijing, China, in September 1995 appraises the status of women in Ghana since the International UN Conference on Women in 1985 in Nairobi, Kenya. The National Council on Women and Development formulated a ten and fifteen year plans of action towards the advancement of the status of women in 1975 and 1985 respectively. These plans of action spelt out specific objectives and activities to be undertaken in the areas of education, employment, health, and legislation in Ghana. Continuing efforts have been made to mainstream gender issues in development at several levels, for example the representation of women at the highest policy levels, an educational reform reducing gender bias in choice of subjects, and the introduction of special credit schemes and appropriate technolgy transfer programmes for women.
