This paper summarises where the global economy and capital markets stand at the end of 2022, which for many couldn’t have come soon enough, with a specific focus on the recent much discussed alteration to Japanese economy policy and specifically the Yield Curve Control (“YCC”) policies pursued by the Bank of Japan (“BoJ”).It seems highly likely that 2023 contains greater potential for extreme and existential event risk than arguably any time in the 13.7 million years’ history of the planet, or certainly during the last 2 million or so years, during which time Earth has been inhabited by hominins
