Trade Union, Collective Bargaining, And its Effect on Membership Growth Among Public University Lecturers in Ghana
The research looked at UTAG's organizational effectiveness, collective bargaining, and trade union activity and its effect on the members growth. A descriptive survey research was conducted with a sample size of 179 workers. Descriptive statistics tests were run on the items, which were summarized by frequencies and percentages, using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) computer software (version 21). The study demonstrated that collective bargaining and negotiations; education; training; and the main services offered by trade unions are research, representation, involvement, and socialization. It was determined that UTAG effectively attended to the requirements of its members and there is a direct and statistically significant link between the membership growth and the supply of services and benefits. It was discovered that the employee representation, employee engagement, and socialization; employee education, training, and research; and employee collective bargaining and negotiations have a positive and statistically significant impact on membership growth. The study showed that the main difficulty facing trade unions is mobilizing members for effective negotiations. The Ghanaian legal system is very sensitive, and hence the trade union procedures are necessary to ensure and preserve industrial peace. Therefore, it is advised that trustworthy legal frameworks and strong authorization of laws be presented, as they will give trade unions energy and enable them to present compelling work reviews. This is because employees claim that trade unions lack the legal authority to handle employees' problems
