Trends and Strategies for Attracting International Students to U.S. Public Health Programs

International students are part of the rapid expansion in public health program enrollment, increasing by 67 percent from 2000 to 2012. However, this growth has been slower than that of domestic students, and enrollments are disproportionate across institutions. This article discusses current mobility patterns and near-term forecast of international students pursuing public health degrees in the U.S., and examine the profile, motivations, information needs and behavior of U.S.-bound international students seeking master's degrees in public health. It aims to support schools and programs of public health with the knowledge to develop and enhance intentional international recruitment strategies rooted in a deeper understanding of student mobility trends and segments
