Understanding children’s work and youth employment outcomes in Rwanda
The report examines the issues of child labour and youth employment in Rwanda. The report is the product of a collaborative effort involving the Rwandan National Institute of Statistics, other concerned Government ministries, local research institutes, the UCW programme secretariat, ILO/IPEC and the UNICEF and World Bank Rwanda country offices. The statistical analyses on child labour and youth employment in the report are based primarily on the National Child Labour Survey (NCLS) conducted by the National Institute of Statistics in 2008 in collaboration with the ILO/IPEC SIMPOC programme. Four related objectives are served by the report: (1) improve the information base on child labour and youth employment, in order to inform policy and programmatic responses; (2) promote policy dialogue on child labour and the lack of opportunities for decent and productive work for youth; (3) analyse the relationship between early school leaving, child labour and future status in the labour market; and (4) build national capacity for regular collection and analysis of data relating to child labour and youth employment.
