Use of Circular Economy Practices During the Renovation of Old Buildings in Developing Countries

A circular economy in the construction industry is a concept whose implementation in Sri Lanka is timely, to shift from linear to circular material consumption. Two case studies helped to identify circular economy principles and how to include them in the construction process in Sri Lanka. One-Click LCA software was used to analyze the circularity of different materials used to construct the buildings. Concrete, steel, and bricks from structural elements were taken into account for the comparison of circularity with different end-life processes. A framework is proposed to indicate how to implement circular economy concept during the renovation of buildings
