Using Multiple Data for Calculating the Maternal Mortality Ratio in Thailand

This study uses individual data from civil registration and inpatient record from all public hospitals. The civil registration contains data about individual’s personal identification (PID), parent’s PID, date of birth, date of death, cause of death, place of birth, place of death and individual address. Inpatient record contains individual’s PID, type of health insurance, diagnosis, treatment modality, and discharge type. Matching technique is used. The key variable for matching these data sources is individual’s PID. We find that he number of maternal deaths in 2004 and 2006 were 362 and 330 respectively. These figures produce MMRs of 44.5 and 41.6 per 100,000 live births for those years
