Vertical Specialization and the Quality of Infrastructure

This paper explores the role of infrastructural services in international outsourcing. Outsourcing in combination with lean supply management is sensitive to the timeliness of delivery and the fulfilment of quality standards, which in turn depend critically on the availability of infrastructure services. The paper modifies and applies the O-ring theory of production for exploring the relation between vertical specialization and services and then explores its predictions in an empirical analysis of the determinants of international vertical specialization
