Vocational and Technical Education (VTE) : A Panacea For Poverty Reduction In AKWA IBOM State

[entThis paper examined the Role of Vocational and Technical Education (VTE) in reducing poverty rate in Akwa Ibom State. VTE is an aspect of education that stresses on acquisition of skills in addition to general education. The concept of VTE, objectives of VTE, Poverty Reduction in Akwa Ibom State context, role of VTE in Poverty Reduction in Akwa Ibom State, factors militating against the success of VTE in Akwa Ibom State and the way forward for VTE in Akwa Ibom State are discussed in this paper. However, despite the main focus of VTE (skill acquisition), it has not been given the attention it deserves and this could be one of the reasons for the state’s high poverty rate. The Government should provide adequate equipments and tools to Vocational and Technical Schools, parents should encourage their wards to choose career in Vocation and technical education, institutions should embark on Teacher Training Programmes for their VTE teachers
