Voluntary Organizations in Bangladesh : A Profile

In recent years, thousands of voluntary groups in the third world have emerged to organize people into undertaking developmental programs. Bangladesh, with hundreds of voluntary organizations, has been in the forefront in this regard. This paper briefly describes the genesis, forms, and growth of such organizations in Bangladesh, and reviews their financial, personnel, and functional strengths. The paper also highlights the weaknesses and problems related to the functioning of voluntary organizations in Bangladesh. The paper is based on a field study and survey of 403 voluntary organizations functioning in Bangladesh
