War, Religiosity, and Punishment : Evidence from Syrian Refugees in Jordan

Does religion play a positive role in helping people cope with the terrible experiences they have been through? Does the level of resorting to religion differ depending on the conditions trauma victims live in? We shed some light on these questions by having Syrian refugees play a modified ultimatum game in which they can punish their interaction partner and investigate whether their level of religiosity and their place of residence (inside a refugee camp in Jordan or among Jordanians) vary according to these traits. We find that neither religiosity nor place of residence explain differences in punishment behavior
