What I Wish Theologians Understood About Markets and the Economists Who Study Them

It is well established that many well-intentioned Christian theologians and ethicists misunderstand God’s created economic order and discount the accumulated knowledge and expertise of economists — even Christian ones. Distrustful of modern economics, these ethicists understandably prescribe policies that are sometimes at odds with modern economics. I use this essay to convey what I wish theologians understood better about both God’s created market order and economists like me. I hope that any Christian reader skeptical about either markets or economists will gain a more accurate understanding of both, and be more receptive to economic ideas in the service of our Lord
