What Suicides Reveal About Gender Bias

This article uses a utility based theory of suicide to conclude that a fall in the well-being of the female population in a country relative to the male population should imply a rise in the ratio of female suicide rate to male suicide rate. An application of this inference is attempted for Indian states and changes in the mentioned ratio are explained on the basis of perceived changes in relative utility
