Where Do Czechs Move? Social and Demographic Characteristics of Residential Migration (in Czech)

The paper focuses on residential migration within the Czech Republic, mainly on the social and demographic structure of migrants. We show migration strategies of different socio-demographic groups of migrants on a unique data set of the individual migration from the year 2004. The analysis shows as well which municipal characteristics determine the migration decision of different groups of migrants. We use twofold spatial dimension for the analysis consisting of the urban-suburban-rural perspective and regional centre-periphery perspective. The analysis has shown that the migration flows are determined primarily by the social position of the migrant and its position in life cycle is only of secondary importance. Although the residential migration within the Czech Republic is not very intensive, suburbanization – the prevailing migration tendency is a wide-spread phenomenon and recently has started to influence the demographic structure of the municipalities
