Staaten gewähren Banken oft Garantien, um den Zusammenbruch des Finanzsystems zu verhindern. Diese Garantien müssen aber sobald wie möglich wieder zurückgenommen werden. Zuvor sollten jedoch die möglichen Auswirkungen der Abschaffung einer Garantie untersucht werden. Die so gewonnenen Erkenntnisse erlauben es den Staaten, wenn nötig, flankierende Maßnahmen zu ergreifen. Der Beitrag untersucht deshalb, wie sich die Abschaffung der Gewährträgerhaftung im Jahr 2001 auf die Risikoübernahme im Kreditgeschäft von Landesbanken ausgewirkt hat.
