Wind energy in Greece development & future perspectives
In the islands of the Aegean sea wind intensities of 8 and 9 in the Beaufort scale are a fact of life. Through the centuries the population developed ways of exploiting these winds to their advantage, the traditional windmills, the trading fleets etc., and most importantly they developed civilizations based on the power of the wind. In this paper a conservative quantification of the critical aspects for modern wind energy development in Greece is presented, along with the up to date development and the current governmental policy supporting it.
