World Trade Organization Law and Investment Relationship : Jordan Perspective

In a world with increasing competition for capital, countries seek to develop different mechanisms to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). One of the Middle Eastern countries, Jordan is an example of a country that since the mid 1990s has sought to attract FDI. This movement results from the country's development of a number of mechanisms promoting this type of investment in both the domestic and international level. Jordan has entered into a number of Bilateral Investment Treaties as well as Bilateral and Regional Free Trade Agreements. One such is the Bilateral and Regional Free Trade Agreement signed with the United States, which is considered by Jordan as an important achievement, with the intention of encouraging the flow of FDI. The joining of the World Trade Organization (WTO) by Jordan exemplifies the efforts to achieve its objectives of FDI and demonstrates the strong relationship between trade and investment
