Zinsstruktur und Wirtschaftswachstum
Empirische Untersuchungen zeigen, daß die Zinsstruktur gute Prognoseeigenschaften hinsichtlich des künftigen realen Wirtschaftswachstums aufweist. Der vorliegende Beitrag geht der Frage nach, worauf der enge Zusammenhang zwischen beiden Größen zurückzuführen sein könnte. Ausgehend von der Erwartungstheorie der Zinsstruktur wird gezeigt, daß nicht die Zinsstruktur an sich, sondern vielmehr das Zinsniveau bestimmend für die künftige Nachfragedynamik ist. Die feststellbare Korrelation zwischen Zinsstruktur und Wirtschaftswachstum resultiert daraus, daß Veränderungen der kurzfristigen Zinsen nicht in gleichem Ausmaß zu Anpassungen der langfristigen Zinsen führen, so daß sich bei niedrigen Zinsen typischerweise eine steile, bei hohen Zinsen eine inverse Zinsstrukturkurve ergibt. Bei starkem Einfluß der Geldpolitik auf die Entwicklung der kurzfristigen Zinsen ist die Zinsstruktur in erster Linie als Indikator des geldpolitischen Kurses zu interpretieren. Als Zielgröße der Geldpolitik sind Zinsstrukturindikatoren gleichwohl nicht geeignet, da die erforderlichen Kontrollmöglichkeiten für die Notenbank fehlen.
