Building Competencies for Value Stream Mapping – Evaluation of a Virtual Learning Scenario
Conventional learning situations and environments in learning factories are associated with a variety of limitations. Among other things, the application of the desired competences in practical situations is a demanding task fraught with difficulties. With virtual reality (VR), training participants have the opportunity to learn in virtual space with supplementary transfer-oriented action tasks. The scenario can be adaptive and personalized to the participants. Likewise, the didactic design of vocational training and continuing education can be enriched with new methods and innovative concepts. Nevertheless, the use of VR leads to new challenges for the design of training and teaching formats. It is important that these formats allow for competency training that is at a similar or even higher level than using traditional learning factories. The suitability of a virtual training scenario for the training of competencies in value stream mapping (VSM) was evaluated in the context of an application example in the process learning factory CiP of the PTW at the TU Darmstadt. For this purpose, evaluation workshops were conducted with several participants, in which the participants were subjected to a competency measurement in addition to the teaching of the competency-relevant knowledge and action elements. The results will be presented in this publication
