Migration has been one of the most important dynamics shaping the world throughout human history. The great wave of migration, the effects of which have survived to this day, began in the 19th century and millions of people have been displaced between countries and continents as a result of wars, forced migrations, enslavement, mass deportations or voluntary migrations.Today, the most important development affecting the fundamental characteristics of global migration is the opening of borders and the acceleration of human mobility in the process of globalization, which accelerated after the end of the cold war.The global migration movement has two dimensions, called regular and irregular migration today. The flow of regular migration is largely due to the migrant population in the poorer countries of the world, and on the other hand, the demand for cheap labor, which is needed due to the aging of the population in developed regions. In contrast, the category of migration, which is characterized as irregular migration, includes migrations due to violence and civil wars in some countries. The refugee migrant population, which developed countries have excluded due to security concerns, has become one of the most important problems in the world today.Turkey has experienced intense migration movements in all periods of history and has taken in huge numbers of migrants before and after its establishment. Turkey, which had a very calm period due to the policies developed on the axis of security during the Cold War, has been subjected to flows of migrants and asylum seekers due to the intense conflict surrounding it since the end of the cold war.In the last 50 years, it has not been able to develop a national migration strategy accordingly, citing long-term developments in Turkey and its region, which relies heavily on the ‘geographical restrictions’ placed on the Geneva Convention. Accordingly, Turkey, which cannot establish its enough legal and institutional physical infrastructure related to migration management in a timely manner, is experiencing difficulties in the face of increasing irregular migration movements in recent times. However, a country that is on one of the most important global migration corridors, such as Turkey, has to develop a national migration policy that can both ensure its national security and accelerate its economic development, and then establish the legal, institutional and physical infrastructure to implement these policies. This study was prepared to develop some proposals for Turkey's migration strategies by evaluating migration movements and dynamics in the EU and Turkey to contribute to the development of these policies
