Die Relative Performance Evaluierung zur Eliminierung des systematischen Risikos aus der Managementvergütung
Die Relative Performance Evaluierung (RPE) stellt in der Prinzipal-Agenten-Theorie nicht nur ein Instrument dar, Anreize für den Agenten im Sinne der Unternehmung zu setzen, sondern auch systematische Risikokomponenten aus der Managemententlohnung zu filtern. Dies wird erreicht, indem auch die Performance einer Referenzgruppe in die Vergütungsfunktion integriert wird, da diese Informationen betreffend den Markt oder den Industriezweig des Unternehmens - die gemeinsamen Umwelteinflüsse folglich - enthält. Empirische Studien konnten jedoch in der Vergangenheit nur wenige Hinweise auf die praktische Umsetzung im Sinne der RPE-Hypothese finden. Die vorliegende Arbeit analysiert die methodische Vorgehensweise jener empirischen Ergebnisse und bezieht weitere Einflussfaktoren auf die Wirksamkeit der RPE ein, um die wenig weite Verbreitung dieser Form des Vergütungsvertrages zu erklären. Ich komme zu dem Schluss, dass die Datengrundlage indirekter Testverfahren als wenig repräsentativ gewertet werden können. Die starke Heterogenität zwischen Unternehmen und ihren Vergütungsverträgen haben zur Folge, dass bei einer Gesamtbetrachtung aller Unternehmen einer Studie in Kombination mit Annahmen die Datenbasis betreffend die tatsächliche, praktische Umsetzung der RPE in Managementverträgen nicht aufgedeckt werden kann. Hinzu kommt noch, dass maßgebliche Einflussfaktoren, wie die Anlagenspezifität eines Unternehmens oder Corporate Governance Effekte, insbesondere die Wahl der Referenzgruppe, eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Implementierung der RPE spielt. Zudem wird argumentiert, dass systematische Risikokomponenten von Führungskräften selbst über ihr privat gehaltenes Portfolio ausgeglichen werden und die RPE dahingehend redundant wird. Hingegen kann sie bei jungen und weniger vermögenden Managern als sinnvolles und effizientes Instrument zur Minimierung der Risikoprämie eingesetzt werden.
