Dispute Resolution in International Construction Contracts : The Engineer and Dispute Boards (Resolución De Disputas En El Contrato Internacional De Construcción: La Labor Del Engineer Y De Los Dispute Boards)

Construction industry is recognized for its predisposition to conflicts. The countless obligations and their performance, the long periods of time spend to execute the works and the international character of the parties involved in construction contracts are characteristic elements that mean conflicts are an every day issue. Through this paper we will describe how, considering its conflictive nature, construction industry has procured the implementation of effective conflict resolution methods that provide an answer to everyday conflicts. We will also review the implementation of DRB and DAB which, along with the attributions given to the Engineer, become effective methods to solve conflicts dealt with before, during and after the execution of the works
