Food Security of Eastern European Countries in the Current Situation (On the Example of the Countries of the Visegrad Group and Albania)

In 2022, there is a rapid increase in the prices of bread, flour and grain in the Visegrad countries and Albania. However, historically, the Visegrad countries have always met their own needs through domestic production, and the rise in prices cannot be associated with a shortage of supply of the goods on the domestic market. At the same time, Albania has not been a “self-sufficient” country for a long time, so a large increase in prices looks natural. Both the Visegrad countries and Albania resorted to imports as a source of replenishing the missing mass of commodities. But if the growth of imports to Albania is not characterized by high growth rates, but only by a change in the structure of suppliers, then in the Visegrad countries there is an abrupt growth in imports and the same sharp concentration on one supplier, which in the future can lead to adverse economic consequences
