Investment Activity in Countries of the Commonwealth
Analysis of the recession in the economies of countries belonging to the Commonwealth of Independent States [CIS] shows that the decline of the volume of capital investments in productive construction has been most significant in them. Its share in total investment decreased from 67 percent in 1991 to 53 percent in 1995, as a result of which effectiveness in production declined and incomplete production grew substantially. Because of the longer realization time of capital investment, there is less investment, and the share of investment in new construction is lower. The trend to invest in the reconstruction of functioning capacities has become dominant. From the standpoint of commercial risks in the existing economic situation, such actions are unfeasible. However, in the course of the strategic development of production processes, they protract the national economy's crisis.
