Optimising National Growth Through Human Resources Investments

Human resources is one of the key factors in the production environment, likewise in the determination of any reasonable growth of any nation, yet, it is always a neglected factor in most of the investment decisions and models especially in accounting theories and presentations (Akintoye, 2004). For any nation therefore to maximise her investments opportunities, human capital is a pivot consideration. This paper perused past literature on human capital formation and government attitude to human capital generally, with a view to finding out the relationship between human capital investment and national growth using government spending on education and other human capital relevant infrastructure, by the use of regression analysis incorporating human capital into the growth process. A negative relationship was discovered between human capital investment and the growth of per capital income. The influence on income on human capital seems to be stronger that the influence of human capital on income. It is therefore recommended that national government should spent more on education and development on human capital so as to optimize national growth
