Privatization of Railroads in Brazil : The New Business Strategy of 'Mrs' (Malha Ferrovia Da Regiao Sudeste) Logistica S.A

This article presents the results of the first stage of a wider research on adequateness of the strategies adopted by recently privatized firms of Brazil's railroad system that focused upon the largest of these firms, MRS Logistica S.A. One of the most significant results was the evidence suggesting that MRS' strategy, although adequate in terms of exploiting the opportunities of the new more competitive environment of this country's transport sector, was having implementation difficulties because of the lack of the necessary organizational cultural conditions to ensure an effective paradigm change process. Some measures are recommended to create such conditions
