Réflexions sur l'observation en démographie
Henry Louis. ? Comments about Observation in Demography. As in many other fields observation and population statistics have been developed through the cumulative effect of historical events and therefore are not fully adequate. In new countries, for instance, the statistical material is gathered according to the norms and habits of advanced countries. Inadequacy is particularly strong in demography because the methods of observation in this field have not been systematically investigated. Empirical improvements are made here and there without an overall view. In short, a brand new system would suppose an observation network built on quite different bases. Mr. Louis Henry who has thoroughly studied [this jproblem as well as the gathering of data concerning past eras presents in his paper a methodological approach to a revision based on more rational criteria.
