Role of Social Connections, Social Media Networks and Digital Technologies in the Lives of Senior Citizens Especially During the Pandemic

Senior citizens have been severely affected by social isolation due to pandemic. In these difficult times, social media was a saviour for them as they could connect with their family and friends and entertain themselves. A survey of senior citizens was conducted in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai area. This paper explores the role of social media usage and digital technology in the lives of senior citizens during social isolation. The findings helps us understand the phenomenal increase in usage of social media by senior citizens for connecting with people, entertainment, work, online shopping and even consultation with doctors and therapists
