FACTORS IMPACTING CLASS TEACHERS’ JOB COMMITMENT: THE CASE OF ELAZIG

The success of an educational institution is mostly related to efforts of its educators (namely teachers). In order to achieve educational goals of the institution, teachers are expected to both fulfill their determined tasks and voluntarily contribute their organizations. Considering this critical aspects, it has been lately determined a necessity of scholarly work on scrutinizing teachers’ motivation, job satisfaction, organizational citizenship, and job commitment. Such studies should target class teachers since they are the biggest portion of educators in Turkish educational system. This study aims to examine factors impacting class teachers’ job commitment. Using qualitative methodology, a survey conducted with 198 class teachers who had been teaching at elementary schools in Elazig province. The results shows that job enjoyment, job effort, job appreciation, social status, and job strain are the main factors impacting class teachers’ job commitment.
